Last year I clocked up a fair few air miles, 19260m to be exact. Which, is near enough halfway round the world! I was fortunate enough to visit so many places, ticking off a fair few on the ever-growing Bucket List.
I absolutely live for planning a new trip. Ensuring I see and do as much as I can. Once I’ve decided on a destination, full OCD kicks in. ‘Hot spots’ to eat at, the ‘Must Do’s’ and seeking out that off the beaten track ‘Gem’.
Here is my 2017 travel look-back.
This was on my list for a while. I love the Danish culture, style and the food was a sure pulling factor. We spent a long weekend here in February, and going in winter was about the only thing I would have changed of this trip. It was bitterly cold. I mean, icy winds and numbing temperatures.
However, shivering a side, I loved it. It’s an absolute dream for anyone who has a passion for the Scandinavian style that is so influential at the moment.
The food was incredible and so diverse. A few of my favourites were Fish & Chips and Oysters at Kodbeyns Fiskebar. Smorrebrod (open sandwiches) at Aamanns. The best Pastries & Pasta from Mirabelle and a Michelin star worthy taster menu at Radio.
My Friend had recently moved over here on a work secondment, so I jumped at the opportunity for a weekend away to explore somewhere not on my radar.
I was impressed. Not only to have decent weather in April but at how much there was to do in a city primarily known as a Business capital. However, I do wonder though if this was predominately down to my super organised friend. She ensured we had a weekend jam-packed, full of everything Frankfurt had to offer!
Highlights of the weekend were; sampling Apfelwein at a local festival. An inner-city food market, devouring bratwurst accompanied by live music. Managing to catch some sun in the beautiful Chinese walled gardens!
Another lucky trip for me. My boyfriend grew up in Dubai and his Dad still resides here. So of course, when a holiday opportunity is presented, who would say no?
We were staying at the Amwaj Rotana Jumeriah Beach Residence. A 5* Hotel that provided everything you need for a great price. Huge Pool, bars, multiple restaurants, a Gym/Spa and direct beach access! We made the most of our short stay by ticking off a few Dubai essentials; A Brunch, at Wanderlust, (a friend of mine also lives over here, so I was pointed in the right direction). A desert Safari trip, Drinks at 101 on the Palm. Finishing with an amazing dinner at Maine Oyster Bar & Grill.
Short and sweet, but covering almost everything Dubai has to offer.
This was one of my favourite trips of the year.
We stayed at the Park Plaza Arena which was part of a wider complex (not something I’d usually choose). But it was just before the season had kicked into full swing, so was perfectly relaxed. Such good value and provided the most AMAZING breakfast.
We hired a boat one of the days and I cannot recommend it enough! Usually much cheaper than any organised tour and gives you complete freedom! We explored a few secluded bays near by, soaking up the Mediterranean rays and cooling off by snorkelling around.
Croatian food is incredible. It’s the perfect mix of seafood, with that essential Italian influence. A few places we sampled were; Ribarska Koliba a harbour front seafood restaurant. A cute Wine and Tapas bar in the centre, Brajda. However, one of the best meals was buying cured meats, olives, wine and bread from the local shop and watching the sunset.
I mean if that doesn’t do it for you…. what does?
Italy, Lake Orta & Bellagio
This one in particular, was a special trip for my Dad’s 60th. He had planned the whole thing (a regular holiday veteran). Flying into Milan and splitting the trip by staying in Lake Orta & Menaggio. The first stop being in an Agriturismo B&B. They produce the majority of the ingredients they serve in their restaurant and it was an incredibly special dining experience.
Why do the Italian’s do it so much better than anyone else?
It’s my dream to plan a full Italian food Road Trip. This taster of the Lakes got me wanting more and more. Ciao! for now Italy but not for long!
New York, New York
I am obsessed with NYC. It’s a place I can visit again and again, never do the same thing twice and be surprised by when it offers something new every time.
I could write post after post (and I will) on what I love, where I recommend and what I plan on doing next time, in this amazing City. However, here were my 3 highlights from my last trip in November.
MoMA, on a Friday, it’s free and totally worth scouring every floor.
Lucali’s In Brooklyn. By far the best pizza I ever did try. Plus a Beckham favourite.
WestLight, Williamsburg. For sunset cocktails, with a view of Manhattan.
Ok, so you’re probably already thinking surely, no more? Believe me, this year was an exception for the amount of holidays but why should it be!? Holidays are for creating memories, exploring new things and taking time out from the mundane! So, no stopping for now at least.
The world is to be explored!
